McAleenan (Newry) Teresa (née Mathers) died 15th June 2026 peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of Stephen, devoted mother of Ayla, Tiarnan and Ethan, treasured sister of Bernadette, Helen, Mary and the late baby Seamus, loving daughter of the late Malachy and Anne (Mathers) R.I.P. and cherished daughter-in-law of Josie and the late Gerry (McAleenan) R.I.P.
Her remains will repose at her late residence, 39 College Gardens, tomorrow (Tuesday) from 12noon until 9pm and Wednesday from 10am until 9pm. Requiem Mass for Teresa will be celebrated on Thursday at 11am in St. Brigid’s Church, The Meadow, burial afterwards in Monkshill cemetery.

Deeply regretted and sadly missed by her husband, daughter, sons, sisters, mother-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and the entire family circle.

Attended the wake
I was deeply saddened to hear of Teresa’s passing.
We met as school buddies back in the day. We were full of fun and many antics. Those memories are filled with laughter, friendship, and the kindness that was such a natural part of who she was. Years later, it was a privilege to teach her son Tiernan, a reminder of how our lives remained connected through the years. Parent – teacher meetings were not serious! 😊
Teresa faced her battle with remarkable strength and courage. She took the pain out of pain for everyone with humour to the last. That’s just the measure of who she was!
Through everything, her love for her children was unwavering. They were her greatest pride and joy, and she spoke of them with such love and devotion. Chats at 5Ways lasted ages as we put the world to rights!
I also know how much her sisters meant to her. The bond they shared was so special. I know they will find comfort in the many happy memories they created together and in knowing how deeply Teresa loved them.
Teresa was simply a wonderful person, kind, caring, genuine, and loved by so many. I feel blessed to have known her and to have called her my friend. She leaves behind countless precious memories and an example of love, strength, and kindness that will never be forgotten.
To her husband Stephen, children, Tiernan, Ethan, Ayla, and sisters Mary, Helen and Bernardette along with all the McAleenan/Mathers fanily, please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers at this incredibly difficult time.
May the love of family and friends, and the treasured memories of Teresa, bring you comfort in the days ahead.

Attended the wake
I was so saddened to hear about the passing of Teresa, a loving mother, sister, sister, in law, wife and dauughter. There are no words that can truly ease the pain of losing someone so loved, especially far too soon.
Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts at this incredibly difficult time. May you find comfort in the love and support of those around you and in the precious memories you shared with her.

Helen, my bestie, Mary and Bernadette, I can’t and don’t want to imagine what you are going through. It’s just been such a hard sad difficult few months for you. I hope you take comfort in knowing you did what you could and you have no regrets you made her last few months bearable and she wanted you by her side. I hope in time you will enjoy the precious memories you have and I firmly believe that Teresa is with your mummy and Daddy now and she will watch over you from above. Keep talking to her x
