When people ask what is the best live music performance you have ever experienced? and what celebrity death hit you the most? Then Moya, you are this.
I first saw you quite a few years ago when you visited my home town of Llandudno in North Wales, the voice of an angel who had a story to tell. I was physically and mentally moved by your performance and remember it as if it were Yesterday.
Your lovely family must be so so proud of you as the people of the whole of your Country of Ireland and beyond are.
May God Bless your lovely soul and you rest in peace Moya x
My deepest sympathies to you all on your loss. For years i was always aware of Moya’s musical talent but to hear her talking on Highland Radio it was easy to feel like you knew her always.
Soft spoken, grounded, yet worldwide known and respectful for everything she accomplished and a fullfilled life.
It left a lump in the throat hearing of her death knowing an iconic ambassador for a county’s people was gone, yet thankful for not silenced, for her music and voice will still bring peace and tranquility to many in turbulent times forever more.
Wishing you the strength to forever talk of her creativity and moments of memory.
Donegal lost a daughter and Celtic music lost it’s mother.

The moment I learned of Moi’s death, I froze. Through her music, she became a part of my life, and Clannad became a band that accompanied me since kindergarten. I thank fate for the opportunity to meet her several times, talk to her, and thank her for the music she created. Thanks to her music and your kindness and generosity, Moya, you will remain forever in my memory and soul. With love and respect to you, Moya, and my condolences to all your family, friends, and loved ones.
We were very sad to read about Moya’s passing.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the wonderful Moya Brennan on Monday. For more than 25 years, her music has been a near-daily presence in my life, which isn’t easy living in southern Germany near the Alps. I was overjoyed when I had the opportunity to see her perform live at a small concert in Munich. I will never forget that experience as long as I live. For me, she will live on forever through her music. I attended the memorial service online and was close to tears. I wish all her family and friends much strength during this sad time. Moya – rest in peace.

With a sorrow in my heart I was saying goodbye to a lovely Moya when watching the final goodbye ceremeony streamed over the Internet. What’s a beautiful goodbye. I am sending my deepest condolences to Moya’s husband, her kids, Enya and the entire family.
There was so much warmth in Moya presence when I met her in Bury UK after the concert she held with Cormac. We’ve had a lovely conversation and she invited me to Leo’s Tavern. Sometimes you meet on your way people who are incredibly rare , like a jewels. Like you meant to meet them and Moya was one of them. The entire conversation she held my hand like she was a life friend and that’s what I mean – she gave you that feeling. Pure heart, treating people kindly, paying attention. It’s rare those days. I am sure now she is celebrating in heaven with her dad and all the angels. Once again deepest condolences to the whole Brennan and Javris families. God bless you all. Rest in peace Moya 🕊🙏🌹🌺🌸

my deepest condolences.
It feels like a good friend has died.
I got to know Moya through her Christmas concerts in Germany. The first time I heard her, I was captivated. Her voice has such an indescribable warmth, that makes one feel safe and protected. I really enjoyed the short conversations after the concerts. She was so very nice and kind and I regret that I didn’t learn about her and Clannad sooner.
❤️ Moya is loved by many! ❤️
We will never forget her.

I had one chance to meet Moya at a festival back in 2012. She was walking alone around the sunny festival grounds and I so wanted to say hello and tell her how much she and her music meant to me but, I lost my nerve and have regretted it ever since. I know she would have been gracious and warm as she has been with so many others. I do have something special though, the image in my memory of her walking in a sunlit tranquil moment away from the crowds, a familiar stranger and I’ll keep that moment dear. Farwell Moya. My thoughts and love to all her family and friends.
My sincere condolences at the passing of Moira. I listened to Clannad many years ago with CDs borrowed from the local library. I now have her discography saved and will listen continually. Thoughts and prayers to her family and friends.

I’m sad for the lost of an iconic Irish singer of Moya Brennan who is a national treasure of one of the Irish greatest female singers of all time, and I got to see Clannad in Derry back in 2022, and it was one of the best concerts ever, and I took my sister Gemma to see Clanned, and my sister enjoys it so much. We’re going to miss you Moya Brennan, and I can still her your voice when you songs are coming alive. 🍀🇮🇪🙏

Dear Moya, your voice, your songs, your story have been a soundtrack of my entire life. So many moments and memories – times of sadness and light, contemplatation and revelry have Clannad and you been with me. Condolences and thoughts to all your family and friends. You leave us with a tome of tales in music, that will stay forever. Thank you… Imigh faoi shíocháin agus faoi amhrán.
I want to express my deepest condolences to Moya’s family and friends. I’ve had the honor of meeting her a couple of times and she was always so kind, patience and funny. At one of the concerts where I met her she called me “the chocolate egg man” as she remembered that I once gave her a huge sack of chocolate eggs. She was also the one that started my journey of discovering Ireland and Irish music and giving me several Irish friends. Her music has been part of my whole life since I was 17. She’ll be missed by many. May she rest in peace and every once in while may her soul drift on a leaf down through the streams of Goathbearra as she once sang.
When I was a US Marine, I suffered a crushing injury to my right hand, leaving me without the ability to play piano or guitar. As I languished in the the hospital, I considered ending my own life, but a Sailor across the ward put on some music he found in Scotland. As I listened to the most beautiful voice I’d ever heard, the darkness of my soul lightened, and it was as if an angel was speaking to me. It was “Caislean Oir,” and my life changed forever from that day. Maire became the voice of Ireland for me, and it always felt as if she was calling me to my ancestral home.
She saved my life, and I will always be grateful to her hand the Brennan Family for the gifts they gave me. I know Maire is in the Heavenly Host, for from that first time I heard her voice, I knew what angels sounded like (Enya too).
God Bless, and Rest in Peace.
Very saddened to hear the news of Moyà’s passing. I have been a big Clannad fan for many years. Her voice was the most unique and beautiful one in the world of music. A wonderful and very talented lady as are all of the family. I will miss hearing her dearly as will millions around the world. Much love to you all at this sad and difficult time ❤️
I wish to offer my deepest condolences an prayers.
I read the very sad news about Moya yesterday morning. I’m still truly in shock, lost for words, still can’t believe She has gone so early.
She is a wonderful person and has meant so much to me ever since I discovered her talent and her voice (full of love) back in the 90s. I’ve been crying about it since yesterday. I am very sorry for this terrible loss, this deeply breaks my heart.
Living in Belgium, I didn’t have the chance to see/meet her in real. I’m so sorry for this. I’m still reading her personal kind dedication/words she wrote for me on her latest album. Tears are rolling down my face since yesterday.
I wish lots of strength and send plenty of love and kindness… to her family and beloved friends.
May She rest in peace, keeping singing with the Angels. Please God, take care of Her and her family.
Lots of love,
Laurent Hosch

It’s been a sad week for the Irish music community with the loss of our very own First Lady of Celtic Music. Moya was a special person as are Clannad. Thank God we will always have the wonderful music to enjoy and comfort us. I’ve been playing Clannad every day since the sad news broke & I have to say I’m still in shock. I know Moya had a strong connection with my home town of Sligo & I know she will be greatly missed around here.
I just feel so blessed I managed to see Clannad live several times along with that wonderful weekend where Leo’s Tavern celebrated their 50th Anniversary & I still have the tee shirt to prove it!
I would like to take this opportunity with a heavy heart to express my deepest condolences to Moya’s Family and close Friends. May God bring you safely home into his Heavenly Kingdom. God Bless and Rest in Peace …our Celtic Queen 🇮🇪☘️💔☘️🇮🇪

The beautiful voice of Clannad. Thank you for the songs you sung and the inspiration and love they gave.
Rest in peace Moya.
I’ve so many memories of Moya that it’d take up too much room here. One that I’d love to share is of the time she performed at Canary Wharf in London, a one-off show I was so glad I attended.
Being amongst stoic Londoners, no one showed the fun they wanted to have despite Moya’s encouragement from the stage.
I stood up and went to the front and danced away, with a friend who was with me that came to eventually join and had the most fun time.
I went to go see her backstage (it was a temporary set so really it was a couple of tents behind some metal fencing). In testament of the love everyone had for her; there was a pretty big queue. That I’d had the fortune of meeting and conversing with her a few times before, I thought best to leave and let her have her rest after what must have been an exhausting trip.
As I walked a fair way along the pavement heading home, I heard a call from behind. Who should it be, but Moya! She literally ran up to me, gave me the biggest hug and kiss and told me that she’d seen and appreciated me being the one to come up and dance and remembered me from what must be a million fans before. Her entourage were calling her back as they had a restaurant booking but she forwent that just to give me that most beautiful moment.
Máire – you are, were and forever will be truly loved by all your friends let alone your family.
May your spirit soar as so it should. I’ll remember and cherish you forever.
Barry x
To all family and friends… having followed the music of Clannad and the family for many years this latest news was devastating.
We saw Móya and daughter Aisling at a small concert near York, UK and Aisling kindly took an image of them both for me on my phone 🙌
We then had the enormous pleasure of meeting and listening to the story of Clannad, and their beginning from Móya herself… This was at an event in Balbriggan called, the Celtic World Forum and Moya was amazing and openly shared her story and experiences… my wife and I will always treasure this memory and her kindness, together with Aisling 🙌
May she rest in peace and we shall always remember her 😇
Moyà has been whispering in my ear for many decades, with her soothing and calming dulcet tones. Deep sadness in the loss of someone who has given so much to so many….. but her chords live on in our lives, a gift to us all.
Moya, you were the voice of my teenage years, your music saved my life. Thank you for everything, for all the time you spent with us. I will miss you forever, Louise xxx

Dear sweet Moya,
It was a pleasure and an honor to be enraptured by your voice and to have met you in person when you came to Florence for a concert in 2013.
If I love Ireland so much today, I owe it above all to you.
In the end, you didn’t really leave, magically imprisoned between land and sea.
So very sorry for your loss 💜 Moyà’s beautiful voice will live on for eternity. Requiescant in pace 🏴x
I wish to send you beautiful condolences and sympathies of your loss of your sister and family member Moya Brennan ( Jarvis)! I remember clannad coming to Sydney for the last concert and remembering Moya beautiful haunting voice. I cried the whole concert thinking of my beloved Irish friend who introduced to clannad in 1994 & my beloved other Irish lady friend who at the time was dieing!
Clannad but Moya especially took me from times of joy in sadness and giving me a peace while listening to your awesome awe inspiring music!
I want to sincerely Thankyou Moya and Clannad💝 a very missed and beautiful soul!
RIP Moya

Moya, you will be missed so, so much. You were loved by so many people. Words can’t describe what a loss this is for Ireland and the rest of the world. I can’t believe you’re gone. I will love you forever. Love Amelia xx
Rest in Peace Moya, and thank you so much for the legacy you have left us all.
In the 90’s my mother won a copy of “Lore” on the radio, and I grew up listening to Clannad on every road trip to put us kids to sleep. It turned us into major fans..
I’m now 36 and had the opportunity to see Clannad’s last performance in Brisbane City Hall with Mum and my late father. Thank you for gracing us with your beauty, angelic and haunting voice, and the deep appreciation for Irish/traditional music. I will never forget it.
You left us with an incredible tapestry of recordings that warm the soul, and celebrate love and life. Your spirit will live on in my lifetime, and the hearts of those you have touched around the world. My thoughts and prayers are with Moya’s family and friends at this difficult time.
Much love from Brisbane, Australia.

I had the honour of meeting her in 2007 in Croatia at Kristfest, and I was so happy to hear her music live for the first time. She also brought and introduced her beautiful Celtic music to my country, for which I will always be grateful. Her voice was just not music, it was something deeply spiritual, timeless and pure.
You will never be forgotten, You beautiful soul.
Rest in peace.

Condolences to all Moya’s family, she was a lovely woman who showed great kindness to all the young artists in Clubeo, may you rest in peace xx
Moya was a truly remarkable lady, full of warmth and kindness, and blessed with the most uniquely beautiful voice. She was incredibly kind to me personally. We have all been touched by her presence in our lives, as evidenced by the astonishing and sustained outpouring of love and grief from across the globe. A testament to the deep regard in which she was held. I consider myself very fortunate to have some treasured musical mementoes of Moya – both on my song for Relay for Life Donegal, and on her duet with my son Zana for the film Sol. I will treasure both. She was so generous with her time and her immense talent. Heartfelt sympathies to Tim, Paul, Aisling and the extended Brennan family. She was a very special lady indeed. Thinking of you all. Comhbhrón ó chroí. 💔

I was so deeply saddened to hear the news of Moya’s passing. There is a huge sense of loss felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing Moya. I’ll always remember her in Leo’s—so quietly confident, never needing to command attention, yet lifting everyone around her. She had a rare gift not just as a musician, but as a person to encourage, to listen, and to make young musicians feel like they belonged.
West Donegal is what it is today, in no small part, because of Moya Brennan Jarvis- her influence, her generosity, and her unwavering support of the music and the people behind it. That legacy will live on in every tune played and every voice raised in our little corner of the world.
Please know I’m thinking of Tim, Aisling, Paul, Bartley and the wider Brennan and Jarvis family at this sad time.
