It is with deep sorrow and great sadness that we announce the passing of Matilda (Meta) Harkin (née Friel), peacefully at home on 9th May 2026.

Late of 15 Elmwood Road, Derry. May she rest in peace.

Beloved wife of the late Patrick (Patsy). Devoted mother of Majella, Jim, Georgie, Noel and Annemarie. Dearest mother-in-law of Liam, Pauline, Margaret and the late Ursula. A much loved granny and great-granny to all of her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Precious daughter of the late George and Letitia. A dear sister of Frankie, Pauline and the late Jim, George, Anna and John. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by all of her wider family circle, friends and neighbours.

Meta’s remains will be reposing at her late home, 15 Elmwood Road on Saturday (May 9th) from 4 p.m. Funeral leaving from there on Monday (May 11th) at 10:50 a.m. for Requiem Mass in St. Eugene’s Cathedral at 11:30 a.m.

Burial will take place immediately afterwards in the City Cemetery.

The wake house will be private from 10 p.m. until 11 a.m.
