It is with deep sorrow and great sadness that we announce the passing Frances Elizabeth (Lily) Friel (née McLaughlin), peacefully at Altnagelvin Hospital on August 16th, 2026.

Late of 9 Castleview Park, Shantallow, Derry and formerly of Moville, Co. Donegal. May she rest in peace.

Beloved wife of the late John Francis. Much-loved mother of Martin and Colin. Dearest mother-in-law of Samantha (Sam). A dearly-loved granny of Kieron and Matthew. Cherished daughter of the late Lily and Alexander McLaughlin. Lily is predeceased by all of her brothers and sisters. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by her nephews, nieces, wider family circle, friends and neighbours.

Lily’s remains will be reposing at her late home, 9 Castleview Park, Shantallow, tomorrow morning, Monday (August 17th) from 11 a.m. Funeral leaving from there on Tuesday (August 18th) at 9:25 a.m. for Requiem Mass in St. Brigid’s Church, Carnhill at 10 a.m. Burial will take place immediately afterwards in the City Cemetery.
