It is with deep sorrow and great sadness that we announce the passing of Bridget (Bridie) Gillespie (née Downey), peacefully at Brooklands Edenballymore Lodge Care Home, Derry on 28th September 2026.

Late of 11 Glengalliagh Park, Derry. May she rest in peace.

Beloved wife of the late Bobby. Devoted mother of Stephen, Fiona, Robert, Charles, Audrey, Bridgeen and the late Sinead. Dearest mother-in-law of Tracey, Paul, Ginette, Agnieszka, Chris, Gary and Ian. A much loved Granny to all of her loving grandchildren. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by all of her wider family circle, friends and neighbours.

Bridie’s remains will be reposing at her late home, 11 Glengalliagh Park on Tuesday ( September 29th) from 1 p.m. Funeral leaving from there on Thursday (October 1st) at 9.25 a.m. for Requiem Mass in St. Brigid’s Church, Carnhill at 10 a.m. Burial will take place afterwards in the City Cemetery.

Wake house will be private from 10 p.m. in the evening until 12 noon.
